Green Porto Heli

Since 2011 there has been a renewed push to recycle and there are now various recycling points around the village. There is a green recycling hut (cans, glass, plastic, small electrical goods) outside the AB supermarket on the Costa road and near the port and the primary school are blue bins with the recycling logo on them, labelled in Greek. ΧΑΡΤΙ=PAPER, ΠΛΑΣΤΙΚΟ=PLASTICS, ΥΓΑΛΙ=GLASS. The smaller brown bins next to them are for aluminium. Not all blue bins are for recycling, the ones WITHOUT the recyling logo are for unsorted household rubbish. Most banks, hotels and Municipal offices have a disposal unit for small batteries and many households already make their own compost so steps are being taken in the right direction.  I personally feel that communal composting bins at strategic locations and a good informational programme (eg. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) would have a positive effect and maybe some feedback as to how much/what we have managed to recycle would encourage people.
